Geraldton architects Eastman Poletti Sherwood have been appointed to design a major refurbishment project at Central Regional TAFE’s Geraldton campus, WA Premier Mark McGowan announced on Wednesday.
Mr McGowan said the $2 million upgrade would see a 50-year-old trades workshop extended and transformed into six learning spaces for creative industries, creating jobs during construction.
The refurbished I Block will include three traditional art studios and three classrooms for student artists, fashion designers and media specialists.
The Premier made this and other announcements at a Budget breakfast at The Gerald Hotel on Wednesday.
He also confirmed 98 additional police officers would be placed in regional WA as part of a $314 million boost to police numbers announced in this year’s budget.
Following last week’s announcement of an additional 800 police positions to be created over the next four years, Mr McGowan said half of these would be based outside of the Perth metropolitan area.
More than 80 people attended the breakfast representing of businesses, local councils, community and service groups.
Following his speech the Premier mingled with guests for a few minutes and, after a short interview with local media boarded a plane to be back in Perth for the afternoon parliamentary session.
