Red Dust Roots back with new owners and a new name to boot

Kalgoorlie-Boulder man Paul Kenny is eager to start helping new residents unlock the secrets to enjoying life in the outback through his new business, Move Goldfields.

Formerly called Red Dust Roots, the relocation and orientation business was taken over and rebranded by Mr Kenny in November.

Mr Kenny has lived in Kalgoorlie-Boulder for about 45 years and said he aimed to help new residents form a positive perception of the gold mining town and connect with the community as soon as they arrived.

“What I’m doing is showing people around to make them understand this is a really fantastic place to move to,” he said.

“We need people to move here and live here, not fly in and fly out.”

Move Goldfields offers a range of services including orientation tours, support in securing accommodation, advice on schooling options for children, and general assistance to help people engage with the community.

Local employers have been hiring Move Goldfields to take their new workers on tours of the region, an investment Mr Kenny said would benefit Kalgoorlie-Boulder businesses in the near future.

“People are not necessarily coming here full of anticipation and they might be a bit apprehensive if they have had to move here for work,” he said.

“We are really interested in engaging with them to find out what their interests are and make sure we connect them with the right facilities and people so they can feel welcome and develop strong networks.

“I want people to understand that even if you have come just for work, you can actually enjoy your time here from day one.

“If they are enjoying themselves, they are likely to extend their stay, which means their employers can save money on constantly advertising for positions and vetting candidates.”

Move Goldfields has also produced an updated Community Living Guide containing a comprehensive list of useful contacts and additional tips on how to get settled in Kalgoorlie-Boulder.

The guide can be bought for $25 from 9 Burt Street, Boulder.

Follow the Move Goldfields Facebook page for information about upcoming events and meet-and-greet sessions.
