Yet another feather can be put in the cap of the Bunbury InTown Centre after it was visited last week by City of Mandurah mayor Rhys Williams.
Mr Williams was taken on a tour of the facility and spoke with staff about the centre’s operations — information that will be used to help shape a proposal for the relocation of Mandurah’s community kitchen.
“Homelessness is a complex issue that all levels of government across many regions are working hard to understand and address,” he said.
“It is important that in doing so, we learn from other jurisdictions and continue to work closely with the relevant agencies.”
Mr Williams was joined on his fact-finding mission last Wednesday by 11 executive city staff and councillors, all of whom took an interest as to how things ran.
Centre chairman David Bailey was thrilled by the visit and said it made him very proud the centre was being used as a template by other organisations.
“They were most interested and asked a lot of questions,” he said.
“It’s recognition for the fact we’re leaders in our field … it makes me very proud.”
