Rays await opponents in MLB World Series

Rookie sensation Randy Arozarena and his Tampa Bay Rays teammates are headed to Arlington, Texas – next stop, Major League Baseball’s World Series.

The Rays clinched the American League Championship Series with a 4-2 win over the Houston Astros in Game 7 on Saturday night.

“We’re the AL champs,” Rays manager Kevin Cash said during the trophy ceremony on the field.

“When you’re as good as they (Rays players) are, you just get out of the way.”

Arozarena hit his sixth home run of this post-season – just one shy of the MLB record – and was chosen as the ALCS MVP.

Game 1 of the World Series is on Tuesday night, at neutral site Globe Life Field, with the Rays to face the Los Angeles Dodgers or the Atlanta Braves after their National League Championship Series was extended to a Game 7.

The Braves led their NLCS series 3-1 but the Dodgers have won the past two games, including a 3-1 victory on Sunday.

It’s just the second NLCS to go the distance in 15 seasons and the first time since 2004 that both league championship series have gone seven games.

“We’re in a good spot,” Braves manager Brian Snitker said.

“I like the guy we’re going to pitch (Ian Anderson), and the bullpen, everybody can pitch and is available (Sunday).

“We’ll see what we do.”

The top-seeded Rays will be making just the second trip to the World Series – they were beaten 4-1 by the Philadelphia Phillies in 2008.

The sixth-seeded Astros were denied a third appearance in the World Series in the past four seasons.

“It’s frustrating,” Astros manager Dusty Baker said.

“These guys fought to the very end. A lot of people didn’t have us even making the playoffs.”
