Quayle loses playoff on Japan Golf Tour

Australia’s Anthony Quayle has been beaten in a playoff in the Japan golf tour’s Mizuno Open but still earned a spot in the 150th British Open.

Quayle shot a level-par 72 in the final round for a four-round total of 12-under 276, pitching him into a playoff with Zimbabwean Scott Vincent, who closed with a sizzling 65.

Quayle, 27, then bogeyed the second hole of Sunday’s sudden-death playoff, meaning his wait for a maiden win on the Japan Tour continued.

But with the top four finishers earning automatic starts in July’s British Open at St Andrews, there was still a silver lining for Quayle and fellow Australian Brad Kennedy, who finished outright third at 10-under after carding a final round of two-under 70.
