A Brisbane man has been charged after he allegedly made around $10,000 by selling the metal scraps from stolen water meters.
Police say they began investigating the theft of several water meters from units, homes and businesses in the Logan area in 2017.
Detectives used “a variety of overt and covert strategies” with help from the local council to arrest a 44-year-old man who allegedly stole the meters and then on sold them for scrap metal.
Police estimate the man has made around $10,000 from the sale of the meters over the past two years.
The man was arrested on Friday, and it will be further alleged he had numerous water meters in his possession.
He has been charged with 174 counts of stealing and he is due to appear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on January 14.
