Think you can match it with the Navy? On a freezing Saturday morning I dragged myself out of bed and headed down to the public PT session hosted by the HMAS Stalwart at the Geraldton Foreshore.
Around 50 Stalwart crew and Geraldton locals turned out to burn some calories in the hour-long session.
From burpees, to star jumps and planks, we were put through our paces by physical training instructor Petty Officer Matthew Vasey.
The session commenced with a paper-scissors-rock competition, which I was unfortunately knocked out of in the first round.
We were eased in with a warm up including high knees, butt kicks and jumping jacks and then split into pairs for joint squats, push-ups and sit ups which got the blood flowing.
My lack of fitness was truly put to the test during a three exercise circuit, which featured running, burpees and mountain climbers.
The session concluded with a gruelling six-minute plank, including five burpees for every failed plank, followed by a warm down featuring more than a few tired bodies.
Petty Officer Vasey said he was impressed by the effort of the locals during the session.
“Today we just gave the Geraldton locals a bit of a taste of what sort of PT that we conduct on the ship, obviously, with not much room and being confined on the ship we do a lot of bodyweight sessions where it’s sort of really stationary stuff on there,” he said.
