Proudies mob in Rotto swim

Albany’s Skye Woods and Monique Nicholson are teaming up for the Rottnest Channel Swim this weekend, swimming and raising money for the Proudies Foundation.

Along with their team members Ebony Morrison and Tahlia Lloyd, and 30 other swimmers, the girls will take to the water and battle the almost 20km course raising money for their friend, Warrick Proudlove.

Ms Nicholson said the team of four made it their goal to finish the swim.

“This is the first time doing the Rottnest swim, we are so nervous but so excited,” she said.

“Aside from us there are about 30 people swimming for Warrick and the Proudies Foundation which is fantastic to see, we’ve spoken about doing it for a couple of years — we just thought this year we really need to do it.”

She said to swim for her friend and raise funds for him and his family was a bucket list item.

“To be able to do it and be able to raise money for Warrick just makes it that much better; this is quite close to our hearts and very important to all of us who are swimming for him,” she said.

“We are doing this for Warrick, the daily struggle that he goes through, swimming to Rotto seems likes nothing in comparison to what he and his family go through.

“To be able to raise money to get him the care he needs, makes it all worth and to see him at the finish line will make it all worth it.”

Warrick Proudlove was an aspiring footballer and talented all-round athlete until he was involved in a horrific car accident in 2011, leaving him with serious neurological damage.

Swim For Proudie was created in 2015 to support Warrick and the Proudlove family. Since then, dedicated swimmers have competed in the Rottnest Channel Swim to raise the much-needed funds for Warrick’s treatments.
