Preview, Tips and Best Bets for Sunshine Coast Sunday 19th December

The weather has been kind and with the rail in the true position all horses will get their chance at the Sunshine Coast but staying with local trainers has been profitable and we will stick to the plan.

Race 1- Fillies And Mares Benchmark 62 Handicap 1000m

Stuart Kendrick scratched Avolonte from this leaving his main hope KNOCKKNEE (7) which led throughout to win a Maiden here last start. This is harder but she has speed and may have more upside than the rest

FOXY RIPPA (6) only battled last start but that was in a stronger field than this. She has trialled since, gets blinkers and will appreciate Ryan Maloney.

HALLOWED DREAMS (3) showed promise last preparation but has struggled at both outings since resuming. Bryan Dais has given her a freshen-up and winkers going on may help.

COSSIE (1) doesn’t win out of turn but has speed and will be prominent.

Betting Strategy- Expecting KNOCKKNEE (7) and FOXY RIPPA (6) to fight it out.

Race 2- Fillies and Mares Maiden Handicap 1000m

A big field with plenty of unraced ones.

Stuart Kendrick has had his frustrations with FINNICKY (1) which lived up to her name and failed to jump when well supported on resuming. She has won a trial since and if on best behaviour will be hard to run down.

ARGYLE PINK (10) made ground on debut here and should be improved. Tony Gollan has put Ryan Maloney on and they have a great strike rate at the provincials.

WINDJANA (3) is a four-year-old on debut and showed up at a recent Gold Coast trial. A good gate helps and she could show up fresh for Taylor Marshall.

WATACHOICE (13) disappointed at two outings last preparation but showed earlier promise and was dominant in a recent Gold Coast trial. With Steph Thornton from a good gate she could give a sight.

Betting Strategy- Watch the market but if FINNICKY (1) behaves she might be too good.

Race 3- Fillies and Mares Maiden Plate 1400m

The Chris Meagher-trained DISCRETELY ALIESHA (1) was slowly away and had a torrid run before finishing fourth at her first Queensland outing. She will strip fitter for this, Samantha Collett stays on and blinkers may make the difference.

LARAINA (5) is resuming after a seven-week let-up following two runner-up efforts. She is up in trip but with Zac Lloyd’s 2kg claim will get every chance from a good gate.

ALLBERIN (8) ran on late behind Vantan Express on debut here. She will be improved by that outing and can hit the line. The stablemate REBEL TINGE (11) wasn’t far away at both outings last preparation and has benefited from a trial. She could show up fresh over this trip for Kyle Wilson-Taylor.

DREAMING JEANNIE (2) made ground at Ipswich when resuming, gets blinkers and may appreciate the bigger track.

Betting Strategy- Several chances but this race should suit DISCRETELY ALIESHA (1).

Race 4- Class 1 Plate 1400m

Tony Gollan runners don’t miss often when Ryan Maloney rides and IF YOU CAN DREAM (8) just failed to get the job done here a fortnight ago. Fitter for two outings she gets another chance and whilst she can give them a start will be strongest late.

MAXCALEMMA (5) has been freshened since his last outing where he made ground late at Ipswich. This bigger track will suit and a positive ride from Travis Wolfgram will help.

Stuart Kendrick isn’t afraid to back them up quickly and CHECKERS (2) did a good job chasing home the promising Mystic Aroma last week. He has had his chances but will appreciate the extra distance and be hard to hold out.

The stablemate BAYERISCHE (6) will find this a lot easier than last start. He was competitive in Saturday grade last preparation and back on his home track may have a class edge.

GROOMED (3) is a battler but will get all the favours from gate one. He will keep plugging away and may be hard to run down.

ANARCHY (1) disappointed last start but is better than that and can improve with a positive ride from Ben Thompson.

Betting Strategy:- IF YOU CAN DREAM (8) will be hard to beat.

Race 5- Three-Year-Old Benchmark 65 Handicap 1000m

Kevin Kemp doesn’t bring them to the Sunshine Coast on a whim and ALERT AND READY (7) was racing in stronger company than this last preparation. She has benefited from a recent trial, is well-placed with a 2kg claim for Montana Savva and can give a sight whilst fresh.

SHAJAEA (1) bombed the start and was caught wide last start but still boxed on against older horses. He returns to his own age group and with Zac replacing brother Jaden can make amends.

Natalie McCall’s horses go best here and both of SACCA (2)’s wins have been on this track. He has benefited from a recent trial and Ben Thompson will have him handy throughout.

AVOLONTE (6) was too good here on the polytrack last start beating subsequent winner Capri Of Tuffy. Fitter for two outings that form is good enough and she will be prominent again.

ANOTHER SPIRIT (4) has been runner-up at his past two outings and whilst 1000m is his limit will get every chance with Ryan Maloney.

Betting Strategy- ALERT AND READY (7) will be just that.

Race 6- Country Cup Qualifier Benchmark 75 Handicap 1000m

No shortage of speed here.

IOLITE (4) has drawn out wide but loves this track and has the form on the board. Justin Stanley knows how to rate him and is the one they have to run down.

SIR ROCKET (2) has been in fine form since joining Michael Costa and overcame waywardness to win at the Gold Coast last start. He has been freshened and with regular rider Jag Guthmann-Chester can be in the finish.

MORT DOYLE (6) rarely runs poorly and has a strong record at this track and distance. With Zac Lloyd’s 2kg claim he is well weighted and could reel in the speedsters late.

AIR SPIRIT (9) will be improved by her first-up outing and loves this track and distance. A strong speed will suit and she can hit the line.

ELIXIR (3) was only run down late by Weona Smartone last start and that form is good enough for this. With a 3kg claim for Yvette Lewis he has the speed to overcome a wide gate.

Betting Strategy- IOLITE (4) hard to pass but plenty of chances.

Race 7- Benchmark 58 Handicap 1800m

None of these win out of turn.

IPSO NEM FELEK (4) made ground on the polytrack last start and wasn’t far away at his two previous starts over this trip in much stronger company. He needs luck in running but has won at this trip previously.

ENRIQUE (6) only battled when well-supported last start but blinkers go back on and that may make a difference. He isn’t the easiest to follow but just missed in this grade two starts back and the longer trip on a bigger track may suit.

LUVYOUANYTIME (1) is a battler but Pat Duff has placed him well in this company and he only just missed in a stronger race than this last start. He has 60.5kg but Boris Thornton won on him two starts back and could do so again.

LORD LENNOX (7) blew the start but made some ground when having his first start here since coming from Victoria. He is one-paced but will strip fitter over a more suitable trip and could run on for Jag Guthmann-Chester.

PETRILLO (11) is still a Maiden but this distance suits and on his home track he may have more upside than most in this field.

BROCSON (3) is a 10-year-old having his 99th start and hasn’t won for 90 weeks but this is his track, class and distance.

Betting Strategy- This is the type of race for IPSO NEM FELEK (4).

Quaddie numbers are:
