Premier Mark McGowan in isolation after COVID scare at Rockingham exposure site

Premier Mark McGowan was forced into self-isolation overnight after visiting a Rockingham exposure site.

A spokesman for the Premier confirmed Mr McGowan’s COVID scare, but said he had now received a negative result.

It comes as WA Health prepares to announce 36 new COVID cases have been diagnosed overnight – although the breakdown between locally-acquired infections and those in returned travellers is not yet known.

“The Premier became aware last night that he had been at an exposure site in Rockingham and was required to get tested,” the spokesman said.

“He attended the Rockingham COVID clinic last night. He has returned a negative test result and is therefore out of isolation.”

Mike Barnett Stadium in Rockingham was on Sunday revealed as an exposure site between the hours of 4pm and 9pm on Tuesday and 4pm and 9.30pm on Thursday last week.

The only other exposure site listed in Rockingham is Snap Fitness – but that was uploaded all the way back on January 28.

Two new exposure sites were announced on Monday, after WA reported a record 46 new cases on Sunday – 31 of which were locally-acquired.

Event space Vin and Flower in Northbridge is an exposure site for the evening of Friday, January 28 while Snap Fitness in Victoria Park was visited by a COVID infected person on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday last week.
