On her first morning in Australia the first question the world had for the Duchess of Sussex, formerly known as Meghan Markle was did she have morning sickness? The second: is it a girl or boy?
But neither of those questions were asked by the Invictus Games and government officials they met in Kirribilli.
The tight fitting cream dress by Australian designer Karen Gee worn by the Duchess barely revealed a royal bump at all.
The Sydney sun shone on their first public appearance 15 hours after the news broke of her pregnancy.
Prince Harry dressed in navy blue suit smiled proudly as the couple held hands on their tour through Admiralty House.
The news – announced on the day the royal couple arrived in Sydney – took many by surprise including Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove and Lady Cosgrove, who dispatched a staff member to hastily purchase a toy kangaroo with joey for their pregnant guest.
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian, was the first government official to meet the pair, after they greeted Invictus Games flag bearers.
“It’s my fault if the weather is bad,” she told the smiling couple in the sunshine.
They then met invictus Games officials including ambassador and former swimmer Ian Thorpe and his partner Ryan Channing, as well as Peter Leahy and Patrick Kidd. They then posed for the standard shot with the Opera House in the background.
Next the couple signed Admiralty House’s guest book before being lead to the sitting room.
There their excellencies presented the toy kangaroo with joey and a pair of tiny ugg boots as souvenirs from Australia.
“Here’s your first gift for the nursery,” the Governor General told the couple. He and his wife passed on his congratulations on behalf of all Australians.
As the parents of three boys, Lynne and Peter Cosgrove, a retired senior Australian defence chief, know about raising army brats. The couple were thrilled by the gifts.
“Thank you that’s so sweet,” the Duchess said on receiving the toy.
“The Morrisons have asked us to pass on a gift for your trip to Dubbo,” the Governor-General said.
He then presented them with Two grey akubra hats.
The Cosgroves last hosted a royal bub at Admiralty House in April 2014, when Prince George visited with his parents the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
The first day of the tour began in Sydney at Admiralty House, the official Sydney residence of the Governor-General of Australia.
Representatives from each of the 18 countries who are participating in the Invictus Games Sydney 2018 were present.
The couple then went to Taronga Zoo.
