Port Hedland crush Lions in round seven of the Ray Stoddart Shield

Port Hedland crushed Hedland Lions by 58 runs in round seven of the Ray Stoddart Shield held at Colin Matheson Oval on March 16.

The 20 over game saw Port bat first and make quick runs with opener Kevin Johnston and Ryan Ibbotson putting on a 53 run opening stand before Ibbotson was dismissed for 12.

Johnston continued to dominate the ball, carving his way to 52 runs before he was run out by a great fielding effort from Parag Patel to leave his side on 3/95.

A quick-fire 42 from Hashan Dharmatilake continued Port’s momentum with the side making 5/150 from their 20 overs.

Ravi Chhokar was the standout bowler with three wickets, while Pushap Salwan and Bhavesh Patel chimed in with one each.

Lions run chase stalled when the Port bowlers tore through their top order leaving the side limping at 4/32.

Clinical bowling continued with the Lions bowled out for 92 in the 19th over.

Gurpreet Singh Bamrah top scored with 25, while Ryan Same, Dharmatilake and Trent Morley grabbed three wickets each.

In the other round seven games, South Hedland claimed a 65 run victory over Rovers on the back of some clean power hitting by Wayne Stokes.

South smashed their way to 6/170, with Stokes making 69 from 47 deliveries including four sixes and six fours.

In reply, Rovers top order faulted before Josh Harvey smacked 43 from 29 to give his side a chance.

Unfortunately it was not enough, with Rovers dismissed for 105, giving South Hedland the 65 run victory.

The final game of the round saw Miners rout Wanderers by nine wickets in a one-sided drubbing.

Wanderers were restricted to 8/95 with bowler Cooper Marlow top scoring with 28.

Miners chased down the tally with ease in the 11th over, with opener Razi Zain guiding the side to victory with 49 not out.

In the end Miners finished 1/98 to claim the nine wicket victory.
