Police pounce on alleged burglar who used e-scooter in attempted getaway

Police have managed to outrun and pounce on an accused violent home burglar despite the suspect allegedly using an e-scooter in his attempted getaway.

The male offender allegedly forced his way into a Midvale home and assaulted the resident when he was fronted about 5am on Saturday.

Police said the victim contacted police, with officers allegedly spotting him a short time later, sparking an “extensive foot chase”.

“Officers chased the offender on foot for almost a kilometre, and were able to catch up and arrest him, despite him riding an electronic scooter,” Midland Police acting Sergeant Andrew Grimshaw said.

The alleged offender has been charged with aggravated home burglary, stealing, assault occasioning bodily harm and breaching bail.

He was due to appear in Northbridge Magistrates Court on Sunday.
