Police confirm 57-year-old man killed, 35-year-old man seriously injured in Mettler road train crash

A 57-year-old truck driver was killed in a crash that left another truck driver seriously injured in WA’s Great Southern on Friday.

Two road trains were being driven east on South Coast Highway near Mettler Road, about 75km north-east of Albany, when they were involved in a collision.

Emergency services were called to the scene about 10.45am, with reports of one driver trapped.

The RAC rescue helicopter was deployed but did not end up taking anyone to hospital.

The 57-year-old man died of his injuries at the scene.

The driver of the other road train, a 35-year-old man, was taken to Albany Health Campus with serious injuries.

A section of South Coast Highway was closed for several hours on Friday.

Major Crash officers are calling for information from the public to help with their investigation into the crash.
