Pizzaca assessment: April Ooi visits Italian pizza and pasta cafe in Scarborough

In my mind, Italian restaurants can be placed in one of two categories.

The first are boisterous suburban varieties, with chequered tablecloths and at least one wall depicting a touristy Italian landscape. The second are oak-toned, one-year anniversary type destinations, dimly lit by flickering flames, whilst remaining humble and homely with their terracotta tiles and perfectly imperfect brick features.

Pizzaca Pizzeria & Bar is an outlier. The fresh-faced eatery is the sister store to the 15-year-old cafe of the same name, both owned by the Bizzaca family.

Pizzaca sticks out with its starchy white interior and un-mutable patrons that roared and cackled about their day of working on the Terrace (completely non-conducive to wholesome family dinners or intimate date nights). My choice to sit outside and away from the hisses about HR was no better, as the store is situated on a slope so there was an embarrassing struggle to not slip and collide into my sister beside me.
