Perth climate: Three cold fronts to bring rain, hail, thunderstorms to metro area for working week

If going back to work this week wasn’t hard enough, you can add some gloomy weather to the mix.

A series of three cold fronts are set to bring the chance of “thunderstorms, small hail, and moderate to heavy rain” to Perth.

After some stunning weekend weather, the first front is set to hit the metro area between 8pm and midnight on Monday — but it doesn’t end there.

“Basically, there will be showers on and off all week,” Bureau of Meteorology Duty Forecaster Catherine Schelfhout said.

“Another cold front will move in tomorrow (Tuesday) evening with a heavy period of rain overnight.

“And the third front on Thursday morning, mostly affecting the State’s southwest corner.”

Over the course of the week, Perth can expect between 20 and 45 millimetres of rain.

Ms Schelfhout said temperatures would drop significantly from an unusually warm 30C on Monday, right down to a maximum of 20C on Wednesday.

The average April temperature for Perth is 26C, and the warmest ever Anzac Day is 33C, recorded in 1978.

But come Thursday skies are expected to clear and make way for some “pretty pleasant” weekend weather.
