Perth climate: Coldest night for 2021 before weekend showers

Winter arrived six days early as Perth shivered through its coldest night of the year on Tuesday night.

The temperature reached a minimum of 5.4C at 5am. It was even colder around the metro area with Jandakot shivering through 5.1C.

Bureau of Meteorology duty forecaster Hilary Wilson said the cold fronts which drenched the metropolitan area at the start of the week drew in cold air from south, resulting in the low temperatures.

The chilly night followed Perth’s coldest May day in 18 years on Monday when the maximum temperature was only 14.7C.

Wednesday will be warmer with a top of 20C while Thursday will be almost summer-like with a sunny 24C.

Make the most of that pleasant weather while you can because it looks like a rainy weekend.

Ms Wilson said the coming cold front was forecast to bring up to 30mm of rain on Saturday.

PERTH FORECAST:

Wednesday – 20C, Mostly sunny

Thursday – 24C, Sunny

Friday – 22C, Showers increasing. Possible storm

Saturday – 20C, Showers

Sunday – 19C, Shower or two

Monday – 18C, Possible shower
