Perth property developer and City of Perth Councillor say Lib MP got it wrong

Perth property developer Adrian Fini and suspended City of Perth councillor Jemma Green have lashed out at a Liberal MP who used the protection of Parliament to claim the pair had an improper financial relationship.

In letters tabled in Parliament, Mr Fini and Ms Green complained that Carine MP Tony Krsticevic had damaged their reputations with “false” and “misleading” statements he made in May.

Mr Krsticevic told Parliament that the City of Perth councillor and the developer were linked to a Fremantle infill development project involving Mr Fini’s company FJM Property Group and Ms Green’s business Power Ledger.

Mr Krsticevic suggested the pair had a conflict because when Ms Green was acting lord mayor she moved a council motion to give $300,000 to an organisation called Historic Heart, headed by Mr Fini.

“I would have thought that if a councillor was doing business with someone and at the same time they moved a motion to give them $300,000, they might want to say or declare something,” Mr Krsticevic said in Parliament. But in letters that will be added to the Hansard reporting of Mr Krsticevic’s claims, Mr Fini and Ms Green demanded that the record be corrected.

“Mr Krsticevic’s statement is misleading, incorrect and represents an unwarranted slur on my reputation because it implies that I had sought to obtain or arrange some form of improper financial benefit from a commercial relationship,” Mr Fini wrote.

He said there were no contractual links to “any entities connected with” Ms Green, who said in her letter that Mr Krsticevic’s comments in Parliament were “completely false”.

An inquiry with the powers of a royal commission is looking into a range of issues leading up to the Perth City Council’s suspension in March.
