A Redcliffe man has allegedly been punched, kicked and attacked with a brick after confronting two suspected thieves outside his home.
The 41-year-old victim, who does not want to be identified, was tripped and punched in the jaw and shoulder as he and other residents went after the culprits who carried out brazen smash and grabs in Ascot Gardens.
“He started following me, swearing at me … then picked up a stick and started chasing me, threw the stick at me,” the victim told 7 News.
It is then alleged one of the thieves picked up a letterbox and threw it at the residents before the victim was hit in the back with a brick.
According to 7 News, other residents quickly called police who managed to track down one the men.
Ascot Gardens residents say the attack is one of many incidents in recent weeks.
They told 7 News they have banded together, setting up an online neighbourhood watch forum in a bid to fight back against criminals in their suburb.
A 28-year-old Cloverdale man has been charged over the series of thefts and assault.
He will appear in court at a later date.
