Person who posted monkey emoji on West Coast star Liam Ryan’s photo revealed as a teenager who pleads misunderstanding

The person who posted a monkey emoji on a photo of West Coast forward Liam Ryan’s three young children has told 7NEWS it is just a misunderstanding.

Ryan’s partner Evana called out the offensive comment on social media, saying “here we f***** go again”, after the couple’s daughter River was the subject of a vile racial attack last year.

In the latest attack, Ryan posted a photo of his children having a bath as they got ready for bed on Thursday night.

WEST COAST COACH ADAM SIMPSON THROWS SUPPORT BEHIND LIAM RYAN

What followed was a monkey emoji in the comments — posted by a 16-year-old teen.

7NEWS spoke to the teen and his parents on Friday after West Coast coach Adam Simpson slammed the comment.

“(The user) is 16 years old – he thought he was saying the babies are cute,” 7NEWS reporter Anna Hay said.

“His parents are devastated. They are indigenous and say they are often the target of racist attacks.”

Ryan is no stranger to copping racial abuse online.

Last year someone commented on a photo of his daughter River saying: “I hope that baby gets a spear to the head and dies.”

West Coast captain Luke Shuey today posted a heartfelt plea for the racist attacks on his Eagles teammates to stop.

“Over the last few years a number of my teammates have been targeted by vitriolic, racist attacks, particularly on social media, and that cuts all of us pretty deeply,” he said.

“These guys are not just our teammates, they are our friends who have done nothing to deserve these cheap shots from ill-informed, ignorant and anonymous people.”
