Penrith Panthers young gun Taylan May signs new NRL contract

Breakout NRL star Taylan May has signed a two-year contract extension which will keep him at the Penrith Panthers until at least the end of 2024.

May, 20, has been a revelation on the wing for the Panthers this year, combining with Izack Tago to revamp the side’s left edge after its premiership season.

At the midpoint of the year, only one player has scored more tries than May, who has proven popular enough at the foot of the mountains to keep Charlie Staines out of the NRL side.

A local junior, May said he was pleased to have committed his future to the Panthers.

“It’s an honour to re-sign at the club. It’s always been a dream of mine to play for the Panthers and I’m making it a reality now,” May said.

“Having grown up in Mt Druitt, I’m not just playing for myself, but I’m playing for my family and the whole community.

“The Panthers jersey means a lot to me – I’m humbled and grateful for this opportunity that has been given to me.”

May’s re-signing comes on the same day the Dragons confirmed Jaiyden Hunt had inked a contract extension of his own.

Hunt is set to be promoted to the Dragons’ Top 30 next year and will remain there until the end of 2024.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to remain a Dragon,” said Hunt, who has played four first grade games to date.
