Now is the time to work for a positive future

It is a great honour and privilege to have been re-elected as a Shire of Broome councillor at the recent election.

I wanted to write this article as a way of thanking the community for its support. I’d also like to thank my fellow councillors for their backing and trust as I embark upon my third term as Shire president.

While voting at local government elections is not compulsory, it is massively important for community members to have their say.

Thank you to the 2157 people who cast their vote over recent weeks.

Moving forward and with the election now done and dusted, it is time for a unified approach from the Shire council, administration and community as we look to make Broome an even better place to live, work and visit.

Over recent years there have been so many highlights as this council has worked tirelessly for the benefit of our community. I personally am really excited about what the future holds, with some fantastic projects and initiatives in the pipeline.

The Shire is constructing a new Broome skatepark, there are plans to refresh the Cable Beach foreshore, and work to establish a new regional resource recovery park is under way.

We are also advocating for the required funding to make the Broome Boating Facility a reality, while our Shire is going above and beyond to play a role in tackling issues in our community such as housing pressures and public safety.

As always, community consultation and engagement are at the core of everything the Shire does and we will continue to provide plenty of opportunities for you to have a say in the future of your town.

The Shire’s vision is Broome: A Future for Everyone and I truly believe the years ahead will be very positive for our town and community.

Thank you again for your trust and support.
