New guide for miners to decarbonise

A report series will be released on Thursday to help resources leaders to decarbonise their mining operations.

The Compelling Case for Decarbonisation report has been developed by the Minerals Research Institute of Western Australia in partnership with the Clean Energy Finance Corporation to coincide with MRIWA’s Net Zero Emission Mining WA Conference 2022.

Aimed at mining executives, operational leads and sustainability teams, the three-part report series provides practical guidance to support the mining industry in analysing technology solutions and strategic pathways for decarbonisation.

MRIWA chief executive Nicole Roocke said the mineral commodities produced in WA were critical enablers to global decarbonisation efforts.

“However, it is also incumbent on those supplying those commodities to demonstrate leadership and show what is possible by decarbonising their own operations,” she said.

The CEFC’s executive director of resources and WA, Rob Wilson, said the report offered Australian mining a path to profitability and sustainability through a rapidly changing economic and environmental landscape.

The MRIWA Net Zero Emission Mining WA Conference is being held at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre on September 1-2.
