NBL’s Hawks sign Boomer Cameron Bairstow as talent continues to flock to new coach Brian Goorjian

New Hawks coach Brian Goorjian has lured former Boomers big man Cameron Bairstow to the new-look NBL team on a one-year deal.

Most recently playing for Rytas Vilnius in Lithuania, Bairstow had three NBL seasons with Brisbane following a three-year stint in the NBA with Chicago.

“Cam brings big game experience to the Hawks and will provide a strong leadership presence for our young roster,” said Goorjian.

“His on-court attributes are well known and he is a major addition to our front court.

“Cameron is also a class act off the court and will help establish the winning culture we want at the Hawks.”

Bairstow said the reputation of Goorjian, who has won six titles at various NBL clubs, attracted him to the club, which has new owners.

“He (Goorjian) has got a winning track record and a great reputation as a coach and a person off the court, so for me it was very exciting when he did first contact me about the opportunity to come play for him and it is something I’m definitely looking forward to,” Bairstow said.

The Hawks have now signed eight players including Deng Adel and US import Tyler Harvey ahead of the NBL season start, set down for December.
