Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita has reportedly suffered a thigh injury while playing for Guinea in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Rwanda on Tuesday.
The 23-year-old was substituted at half-time and was carried off the pitch on a team-mate’s back after being seen holding his thigh towards the end of the first half.
Keita adds to Liverpool’s mounting injury concerns as they prepare for the return of the Premier League. They are away at Huddersfield on Saturday evening – and a number of players have question marks over their fitness.
Sadio Mane is also believed to have sustained an injury during the international break, having been pictured with a bandage on his left hand amid reports he has broken his thumb.
Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk have not yet been ruled out for Saturday’s fixture. They were called back to Anfield so the club can monitor their fitness.
Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman says Van Dijk is fit to return for Liverpool, but claimed the defender has been playing with two broken ribs.
