Mum, kids lucky to escape injury in Forrest Highway crash

A mother and her two children were lucky to escape injury after being hit by a stolen car on a major WA highway.

The crash happened on the Forrest Highway near Mandurah around 10am on Saturday.

Police say they received reports of a Toyota Kluger four-wheel-drive being driven erratically, with the male driver changing lanes without warning, abusing motorists and almost colliding with other vehicles.

Before officers were able to catch up to the man, his vehicle crashed into the mother’s Subaru Outback at the Old Coast Road turn-off.

Luckily for the trio, they were shaken but not badly hurt in the crash.

According to 7 News, the driver of the Kluger was arrested and taken to hospital, where he remains under police guard.

It will be alleged the Kluger was stolen from a home in Wattle Grove in Perth’s east earlier this week.

Part of Forrest Highway was blocked off by police on Saturday as officers investigated the crash.

Police are now appealing for anyone with dashcam footage or who saw the driver before the crash to come forward.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report it online at www.crimestopperswa.com.au
