With winter upon us, the Mt Barker SES unit will hold a sausage sizzle and raffle this Saturday to raise awareness about the importance of preparing for storms.
From 10am to 1pm, SES volunteers will be in the foyer of the Mt Barker Supa IGA, providing information about storm preparation and handing out information packs.
A raffle with the first prize of a Mitre 10 chainsaw will take place, with other prizes including firewood, a fire pit and the opportunity for a winner to have SES volunteers conduct a storm-readiness check of their property.
Mt Barker SES volunteer Eleanor Beidatsch said the group hoped the event would help residents prepare for the event of a damaging storm.
“The last couple of years, we’ve had some really bad weather in the region,” Ms Beidatsch said.
“We had so many storm damage incidents, people had equipment they hadn’t tied down that went through their roof.
“There were trees on the road and trees on people’s houses, and so much flooding damage that we decided next year we’d really like to help the community brace for storm season before it hits.”
