Mitrovic treble gives Fulham win over WBA

Aleksandar Mitrovic has maintained his stunning scoring streak with all three goals as Fulham defeated Championship promotion rivals West Bromwich Albion 3-0.

The result means Fulham opened up a four-point gap to third-placed Albion, while Valerian Ismael’s side were forced to count the cost of a contentious penalty decision and a mistake by Robert Snodgrass that gifted the Cottagers a two-goal half-time lead.

The visitors were also unhappy with the decision to send off wing-back Darnell Furlong in the 70th minute, with Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo also collecting a red card in the 85th minute.

Mitrovic took full advantage of the chances that came his way, wrapping up his second treble of the season in the 82nd minute as he scored for the fourth-successive match.

Coventry City stayed fourth with a one-nil win at Hull City while Huddersfield, 1-0 winners at home to Millwall, and Blackpool, who also won 1-0, at Sheffield United, joined them in the play-off places.

Stoke dropped out, stunned by a comeback from 3-0 down by managerless Cardiff City. Former player Steve Morison is caretaker after Mick McCarthy was sacked last week.

Wayne Rooney’s Derby County remain bottom after losing 2-1 at home to Blackburn, both goals scored by Chilean international Ben Brereton Diaz.

While that was Derby’s first home defeat of the season Bristol City won their first home match since January, beating Barnsley 2-1.

There were also wins for Swansea, Preston and Birmingham.
