Melbourne Renegades youngster Jake Fraser-McGurk takes stunning catch in BBL game against Adelaide Strikers

It might just be a week into summer, but we may have seen the catch of the summer courtesy of Melbourne Renegades youngster Jake Fraser-McGurk at Marvel Stadium on Tuesday night.

The young batsman has been compared regularly to superstar Glenn Maxwell and he did his best impression of the all-rounder in the field, plucking a massive catch at deep mid-wicket.

Defending 153, the Renegades needed wickets against the Adelaide Strikers, who were cruising at 1-50 after just 38 balls.

Left-arm spin bowler Zahir Khan produced the opportunity when Strikers opener Jake Weatherald decided to hit him for six, only to be denied by a leaping Fraser-McGurk, 19, who plucked the catch from out of nowhere.

It left commentators and fans in awe and sent social media into a spin, with current and past professional cricketers praising the young batsman.

“That’s one of the best outfield catches you will ever see,” former Test wicketkeeper Brad Haddin told Fox Cricket.

“Everything has to go right, the timing, he takes off of one leg, look at that, takes off his left leg, perfect timing, takes it behind him.

“Doesn’t get much better than that.”
