A furniture factory fire in the Melbourne suburb of Brunswick has been contained after it initially prompted a watch and act alert to nearby residents.
The blaze took hold of the factory on Tinning Street early on Tuesday morning with about 60 firefighters deployed to contain it.
A watch and act warning was issued for smoke in the area, with nearby residents advised to close all exterior doors and windows, and ensure heating and cooling systems were turned off.
It has since been downgraded to an advice message after the fire was declared under control at 7.20am and then contained at 6.30pm.
“There is currently no threat to the community, but you should continue to stay informed and monitor conditions,” the Emergency Management Victoria notice said.
Emergency services will remain in the area overnight, with Tinning Street at the end of Sydney Road still closed.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
