Johan Ackermann’s Gloucester picked up a highly valuable Champions Cup Pool 2 victory on Saturday, courtesy of a 27-19 win over Exeter at Sandy Park.
A Don Armand try opened the scoring for Exeter in the first half, but Willi Heinz’s effort for Gloucester, in addition to a Danny Cipriani conversion and penalty had the victors 10-5 up at the break.
Nic White scored Exeter’s second try early in the second half, before Cipriani kicked Gloucester in front once more in testing conditions.
South African hooker Jaco Visagie then finished off a flowing move past the hour mark, and when Cipriani converted, the Cherry & Whites’ lead was out to eight points.
Ben Morgan put the game beyond doubt when he bundled over after a powerful drive on 72 minutes.
The Chiefs could not recover from then on, suffering a third straight European fixture without victory – having drawn at home with Munster and lost away at Castres before now.
