Match Preview – Coventry vs Wycombe

Last Updated: 12/10/18 10:29am

Coventry boss Mark Robins must decide whether to reward Amadou Bakayoko for his match-winning brace against Charlton last weekend with a start at home to Wycombe.

The 22-year-old replaced Jonson Clarke-Harris with just over half an hour to go and scored twice in the final 10 minutes to give City a 2-1 victory. Clarke-Harris has scored twice in 10 games so far and also has Jordy Hiwula snapping at his heels for a start up front.

Midfielder Jodi Jones missed the clash with Charlton because of illness but should be available. Jordan Shipley definitely misses out as he is away with Ireland Under-21s.

In-form Adebayo Akinfenwa could be a doubt for Wycombe. The 36-year-old scored for a third consecutive game in last weekend’s victory over Burton but was forced off with a thigh injury during the second half.

If Akinfenwa fails to make it then Paris Cowan-Hall, Scott Kashket and Fred Onyedinma will be vying to start in his place. Full-back Sido Jombati returns from a one-game ban while Marcus Bean (leg) could return but Anthony Stewart (thigh), Adam El-Abd (groin) and Nathan Tyson (hamstring) are set to remain sidelined.

Opta stats

Coventry have won each of their last five matches against Wycombe in all competitions, last losing to them in October 1993 in the second leg of a League Cup second round tie (4-2), in which the Sky Blues progressed 5-4 on aggregate despite that defeat.

Wycombe have lost all three of their previous visits to Coventry in all competitions, conceding 2+ goals each time (eight in total).

With just four home goals scored this season for Coventry, only Bradford have managed less in front of their own fans in League One. However, their five goals conceded at home is only bettered by Barnsley (3) and Shrewsbury (4).

Wycombe have picked up just one win in their six away league games so far (D3 L2); stark contrast from last season, when they gained more points away from home (43) than at Adams Park (41) in League Two.

Coventry City boss Mark Robins has lost just one of his previous six managerial clashes with Wycombe (W2 D3), winning both with the Sky Blues in the 2017-18 League Two campaign.
