Match Preview – Cambridge U vs MK Dons

Last Updated: 12/10/18 10:38am

Cambridge boss Joe Dunne could make changes for the Sky Bet League Two visit of MK Dons in a bid to end a seven-game winless sequence.

Dunne will hope Ade Azeez can carry some goalscoring form into the league after his hat-trick in Tuesday’s Checkatrade Trophy win over Southampton Under-21s.

Defender Jake Carroll is suspended for two more games following his straight red card against Forest Green. Forwards Harrison Dunk (leg), Barry Corr (ankle) and Jabo Ibehre (concussion) are all out.

MK Dons midfielder Ouss Cisse is a doubt with an undisclosed injury after going off at half-time of the Checkatrade Trophy loss to Luton. Cisse was an unused substitute as the Dons beat Cheltenham for a second successive league win, following their five-game winless September.

None of MK Dons’ injured players are expected to return, so Peter Pawlett, Conor McGrandles and Osman Sow are still out. Kieran Agard, Mathieu Baudry and Lawson D’Ath are also missing.

Opta stats

Cambridge United and MK Dons have never faced before in any competition.

MK Dons boss Paul Tisdale has managed four away Football League games against Cambridge United and lost just once, winning the other three, all with Exeter City.

Cambridge are winless in their last six league games (D1 L5), last going longer without a victory between April and September 2016 (run of 10).

MK Dons have picked up 21 points from their opening 12 league games this campaign (W5 D6 L1) – their best start to a Football League season since 2014-15, a season in which they went on to achieve promotion from League One.

Five of Cambridge’s last six league goals have come in the first half of games having scored each of their opening five League Two goals this season in the second half of games.

Prutton’s prediction

Cambridge are in wretched form in Sky Bet League Two. They have picked up just two wins all season and a point from their last six games. Now they find themselves in the bottom two heading into the weekend.

MK Dons have struggled for a bit of consistency so far under Paul Tisdale but they have proven to be incredibly tough to beat, with their only loss so far coming at Lincoln. They have won their last two now and will hope to keep that momentum going, which I think they will do here.

David Prutton predicts: 0-3 (22/1 with Sky Bet)
