David Templeton is a doubt for Burton’s Sky Bet League One clash against Bristol Rovers.
The winger missed the defeat at Wycombe with a shoulder injury. Brewers boss Nigel Clough may have to make a late decision on Templeton after a fitness test on Saturday.
Clough is more hopeful of midfielder Stephen Quinn (knee) being available while Jake Buxton looks to have recovered from a long-standing back problem, with illness ruling him out of the squad at Wycombe last weekend. Top scorer Liam Boyce is definitely unavailable as the striker has been called up to the Northern Ireland squad for their upcoming Nations League fixtures against Austria and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
It is likely to be a much-changed Rovers team that takes to the field at the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday. Gas boss Darrell Clarke swapped seven players in midweek for the Checkatrade Trophy tie with Yeovil, and still saw his side win.
The likes of Tony Craig, James Clarke, Joe Martin, Ollie Clarke and Chris Lines are expected to be among those who are recalled. Alex Rodman made a welcome return from a month-long injury lay-off against the Glovers and the winger will be hopeful of keeping his place in the squad, at least, after marking his comeback with a goal.
The side playing at home has won five of the six previous league meetings between Burton Albion and Bristol Rovers, with the only exception being a 1-1 draw at the Pirelli Stadium in October 2012.
Burton Albion’s joint-heaviest ever defeat in the Football League was inflicted upon them by Bristol Rovers in April 2012 in League Two – a 7-1 thrashing (also lost 7-1 to Port Vale in April 2013 and 6-0 to Fulham in January 2018).
Burton Albion’s tally of 11 points from their opening 11 league games is their worst start to an EFL season outside of the Championship.
Bristol Rovers have kept clean sheets in two consecutive away games in the League for the first time since December 2015. They last kept three consecutive away clean sheets in the League in April 2011.
Liam Boyce has been directly involved in 58% of Burton Albion’s 12 league goals this season (five goals, two assists), the highest percentage of any player in League One this season.
