Man lured to unit to negotiate payment for stolen vehicle allegedly shot in leg: cops

A man has allegedly been shot in the leg after he was lured to a Gold Coast unit to negotiate a payment for a car that was stolen from him.

The 27-year-old Holland Park man was driving a hired black 2020 Mercedes Benz S450L on Thursday night when two men he met up with at Budds Beach allegedly stole the vehicle.

According to Queensland Police, two other men — including one that was known to the Holland Park resident — lured the 27-year-old to a Southport high-rise unit on Lawson Street at around midday on Friday.

It was there the situation allegedly became more sinister after an altercation broke out, leaving the Holland Park man with a gunshot wound to his upper right leg.

He, the two men and a woman all went to leave the complex and rode the elevator to ground floor where the injured man fled the scene on foot while the trio allegedly drove away in the stolen Mercedes.

Police were later called to a Lawson Street grocery store at about 12.30pm where the Holland Park man attended.

He was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

Investigations led police to Acacia Ave in Surfers Paradise where the stolen Mercedes was found at about 2pm.

Inside the vehicle was a 29-year-old Southport man, a 25-year-old Gold Coast man and two women.

Both men were charged with armed robbery, acts intended to main, deprivation of liberty, extortion, and unlawful use of a motor vehicle and were due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on Saturday.

The 25-year-old Gold Coast man was also charged with two counts of possession of a dangerous drug (methylamphetamine and gamma hydroxybutyric acid) and possession of drug utensil, being a glass pipe.

In addition to the men, a 32-year-old from Surfers Paradise was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle while a 26-year-old from Beerwah was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and possession of a dangerous drug (methylamphetamine).

They are both due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court in November.
