A 33-year-old man has been charged with a number of offences following a dramatic hire car chase through Perth’s CBD last night.
Police on patrol initially spotted the white Kia Cerato drive through a red traffic light at the intersection of Great Eastern Highway and Resolution Drive just after midnight.
Officers tried to pull the car over a short distance away on Great Eastern Highway in Belmont, but the driver sped off.
Police followed the car through Rivervale and Victoria Park, before it was driven across the Causeway into the Perth CBD.
A stinger device was then deployed at the corner of St Georges Terrace and Barrack Street, deflating two of the car’s tyres.
The car then came to a stop on the corner of William and Wellington Streets in the centre of the CBD.
The driver was arrested at the scene and allegedly in possession of approximately of one gram of methylamphetamine.
The Victoria Park man has been charged with fail to stop, reckless driving to evade police and possess a prohibited drug.
He was refused bail and will appear in the Perth Magistrate’s Court on Saturday.
