Man charged after allegedly threatening to kill staff at eatery for not serving him hot chips

A man from Parmelia has been charged after allegedly threatening to kill staff at an East Perth food and liquor business because they refused to serve him hot chips.

Police said 24-year-old Patrick James Jackson entered John’s Food & Liquor Store on Bennett Street about 9pm on Friday and tried to order some hot chips.

“It will be alleged when he was advised the kitchen was closed, he showed the staff he was carrying knives and threatened to kill staff if the chips were not cooked for him,” police said in a statement.

Officers arrived a few minutes later while Mr Jackson was allegedly waiting for his food and he was arrested.

The knives and the cash he had allegedly placed on the counter to pay for his food were also seized.

An employee of John’s Food & Liquor Store told The West Australian the staff member who was the target of the alleged threat was not at work on Saturday and taking time at home before his expected return on Monday.

Mr Jackson was charged over the incident and refused police bail on Friday night.

He faced Perth Magistrates Court on Saturday on counts of threatening to kill, being armed in a way that may cause fear, and failing to comply with a request to give police his personal details.
