A man has been arrested in relation to the disappearance of missing campers Russell Hill and Carol Clay.
The elderly friends, from Melbourne’s outer southeast, are believed to have been murdered after vanishing in Victoria’s High Country in March 2020.
A 55-year-old Caroline Springs man was arrested in East Gippsland at 5.30pm on Monday by Victoria Police’s special operations group.
He will be interviewed by police on Tuesday morning.
“The investigation into the matter remains ongoing and further information will be released when operationally appropriate to do so,” police said.
Mr Hill, 74, and 73-year-old Ms Clay were last known to be alive in the state’s remote Wonnangatta Valley, 350km northeast of Melbourne, on March 20, 2020.
The pair’s campsite was later found deserted and fire damaged by other campers, with Mr Hill’s vehicle also damaged in the blaze.
Victoria Police said no charges have yet been laid.
