Man accused of murdering mother of two

The victim of a suspected murder has been identified by police, and a man has been arrested over her death.

Just after 5am on Tuesday, SA Police were called to a home at Park Holme in Adelaide’s south after a person was found unresponsive.

Emergency services attempted to revive 51-year-old Louise Hughes of Glengowrie, but she died at the scene.

Police arrested 33-year-old Lee Streng from the address, who was then charged with murder and breach of bail.

Ms Hughes, a mother of two with one grandchild, was described as friendly by neighbours, but often kept to herself.

Her exact cause of death remains unknown, but Mr Streng will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court to face the charges.

Detective chief inspector Michael Fisher said people living in the home initially called paramedics to the scene, who then called for police assistance.

“It’s an unusual situation; people don’t normally just pass away without any outside influence of some description,” Mr Fisher said.

“It’s not clear at this stage how this person passed on; that’s why we’re investigating.”

Police wouldn’t reveal further information due to the early stages of investigations, but said Ms Hughes and Mr Streng were known to each other.

“Major Crime’s involvement with forensics is to determine what we’ve got at the scene,” Mr Fisher said.

“There will be a post-mortem conducted on the deceased female to ascertain her cause of death.”

He said anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Detectives were bagging evidence and doorknocking neighbours from the early hours of the morning.

Neighbours in surrounding streets said the accused man was an “interesting character”.

Nearby resident Michelle Swincer told The Advertiser it was concerning what had happened on her “quiet little street.”.

“It’s very sad; I know things happen, but it’s pretty confronting when it happens in your street,” Ms Swincer said.
