Maersk ship loses 90 containers in Pacific

A vessel operated by Danish shipping giant Maersk has lost 90 containers in the northern Pacific Ocean earlier this week due to rough weather, the company says.

Of those lost, nine were classified as “dangerous cargo,” containing lithium-ion batteries, the company said.

A further 100 containers were damaged but no crew members were injured, Maersk said.

The incident on board the Liberian-flagged Dyros took place while the ship was on the way from Yantian in China to Seattle, on the western coast of the United States.
