RESIDENTS have been warned their lives are in danger and they must leave or get ready to defend their homes as an out-of-control bushfire bears down on houses near Governor Broome Road in Nannup.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services has issued an bushfire emergency warning for people in the area between Dennis and Avery Roads, 2kms south of Pagett Nature Reserve in Scott River East, in the Shire of Nannup.

It appears fire crews have been able to save one home that had been under direct threat but are continuing to defend the property.

The fire, which started in a nature reserve after escaping from a prescribed burn, is now heading towards other agricultural infrastructure.

Water bombers have been sent in to assist ground crews.

A number of roads in the area have been closed including Governor Broome Road between Dennis and Avery roads and motorists have been asked to avoid the area.
