Lions tackle in-form Bulls in sixteens

Mt Barker will be out to end a seven-game winning streak and prevent Royals from claiming a third straight sixteens premierships when they face off in the sixteens grand final at Centennial Stadium on Sunday.

The Lions have been a dominant force this year only losing one game at the hands of Denmark-Walpole in round 9 by nine points and progressed straight through from the second semi-final.

The Bulls are looking to be the first team to come from fourth position to win the flag.

Warrick Proudlove medallist Arthur Jones and runner-up Tristan Ballard will play key roles as their side looks for their first sixteens premiership since 2015.

Carson Flower, Cooper Childs, Ben Altus and Lorcan McNamara are all critically important to the Lions’ hopes of making it a three-peat, having beaten Albany in the past two grand finals.

The Lions have a potent midfield and leading goal kicker Carson Bristow and McNamara are a constant threat in attack.

Railways will be shooting for back-to-back reserves premierships when they face the Lions for the second successive year on grand final day.

The Lions will again go in as favourites for this year’s decider after easily accounting for the Tigers in the second semifinal by 35-points.

In their four encounters thus far in 2019, the Lions hold a clear edge winning three while the Tigers’ only win came in round 8.

The Tigers will be out to break a 28-year premiership drought when they tackle arch rivals the Lions for a fifth time this season.

The Lions will be looking to win three of the last four premierships while the Tigers’ last success was 1991.

The Tigers will be favourites having gone on a 13-0 run since their only loss of the season to the Lions in round 3 and having won the second semifinal by 70 points.
