Ladder leaders Pumas to play in Geraldton under-18 division 1 boys’, women’ basketball

The ladder leaders are both in action in the top divisions of Geraldton junior basketball this weekend.

Top side Pumas face fourth-placed Olympians on Friday in the boys’ under-18 division one competition, while third-placed Dongara play Stateside.

Second-placed Chapman Valley are out of action with a bye.

First and second play each other in the girls’ division on Friday as Pumas face Trades.

Olympians play Chapman Valley Maroon. Junior games continue through to Sunday afternoon.

Pumas Green and Hawks White played out a competitive under-16s match last Sunday, showing the strength of the competition.

Hawks’ Bailey Adamczyk was among the players showing some solid skills on the court.

Bailey was on the winning side in the end as Hawks White just nicked it, 34-32.

Geraldton Amateur Basketball Association president Peter Brown said earlier this season he had counted 78 teams in the under-eight to under-12 divisions, a “huge” junior turnout.

“It’s been a great start to the season,” Brown said.

The association are hoping an expansion of the stadium will be done soon, doubling the indoor court space to four courts from two and upgrading other parts.

Work has already started.

In senior results this week, Pumas beat Chapman Valley 89-56 on Tuesday in the men’s division one.

Olympians beat Trades 97-78 on Wednesday, while Stateside beat Hawks 81-53.

In the women’s, Stateside narrowly beat Pumas on Monday, 36-33. Trades beat Chapman Valley 60-33.
