The City of Kwinana’s annual photography competition has celebrated the area’s leafy landscapes with the theme ‘City of Trees’.
Photographers were invited to submit their best photos of trees in the area.
More than 130 entries were received and three photos were selected as winners by a judging panel, which included City of Kwinana mayor Carol Adams and a professional photographer. Three other entries received judge’s commendations.
Ms Adams said all eligible entries would be exhibited in the Carol Adams Community Lounge at the Darius Wells Library and Resource Centre in August.
“Photography workshops held prior to the competition opening provided tips for amateurs to apply to their entries,” she said.
“The panel of judges took note of the entry composition, lighting and celebration of the competition’s topic.
“Kwinana is known as the City of Trees for its lush landscapes and urban canopy.”
Will Battle won the child category for his image of a tree in Sloans Reserve and received $200.
Sienna Rose Micallef’s image from Wally’s Circuit in Sloans Reserve won the youth category and received $300, and Joy Proby’s image of a tree outside the Kwinana Senior Citizens Centre won the adult category with $400 in prize money.
Commendations went to Mehraj Kaur, Shantilla Piazzola, and Tamarah Calder.
