A blockbuster match-up between Broome Basketball Association’s two undefeated teams, the MP Boyz and the Kings, is looking increasingly likely after both teams continued form in round four.
In the first game of the evening, a mid-table Roey Misfits were able to notch another victory after a strong showing against the winless Cool Running.
It was a fairly straight forward game for the Misfits, who rushed to an eight-point lead by the end of the first quarter, and continued to outscore their opponents in every period after to see the game finish 60-41.
It was hard to pick a stand-out performer for the winners — who fielded just six players versus Cool Running’s nine — with a consistent team performance seeing all players score at least eight points, but none more than 12.
In the second game of the evening third-placed Skywalkers came up against the undefeated Kings.
A strong start from both teams meant the game looked relatively even at the end of the first quarter, with Kings leading 16-11.
But it was a second quarter slump for the Skywalkers which proved decisive, with the team managing just two points all quarter against Kings’ 10 points.
The Kings managed to hold the lead for the rest of the game, the teams scoring equal points in the second half to see the game finish 53-40 to Kings.
The result means Skywalkers slipped from third place to fifth place with the Misfits taking their spot and Gantheaume Pointers — who had a bye so automatically gain points — moving to fourth.
The final game of the evening saw league leaders MP Boyz come up against a struggling Tigers outfit.
The MP Boyz came out firing, scoring 14 points in the first quarter and holding Tigers to just four to assert their dominance.
But a second quarter fightback from the Tigers thanks to a number of baskets from Lattrell Matthews and Nathaniel Matsumoto saw the MP Boyz lead cut to just three points heading into half-time, 20-17.
Perhaps woken by the strong Tigers second quarter, the MP Boyz were back on form in the third, pushing the lead out to nine by the end of the period.
The lead was again extended before the final siren with MP Boyz winning 49-33.
In round five MP Boyz face their biggest challenge yet coming up against third-placed Roey Mistfits before their blockbuster round six match-up against the Kings.
