Jeremy McGovern leads West Coast to first victory as skipper while brother Mitch boots two goals in Carlton victory

In what was a great weekend for Great Southern-raised footballers, brothers Jeremy and Mitch McGovern both played important roles for their respective sides in the AFL.

Jeremy McGovern led the West Coast Eagles out for the first time as captain and he certainly led from the front being named in the best players against a winless Adelaide Crows outfit at the GABBA.

The North Albany product racked up 12 marks to go along with 17 disposals.

Younger brother Mitch McGovern helped Carlton record an big 52-point win over the Western Bulldogs. He took seven marks and booted two goals from 12 touches.

Pingaring-raised Liam Baker was named in the best players for an undermanned Richmond side that prevailed over Sydney in a low-scoring affair on Sunday afternoon at the SCG.

Baker was solid as a rock in the Tigers defence, finishing with 17 disposals, eight marks, four intercept possessions and three inside-50s.

Tigers teammate and Katanning-born Shai Bolton also impressed collecting 14 touches.

Fremantle captain and Lake Grace star Nat Fyfe returned from his hamstring injury against St Kilda as the Dockers won a thriller.

Fyfe racked up 18 possessions.
