‘Jaws-sized’ shark spotted off coast of Secret Harbour

Beachgoers were today warned after sightings of a monster shark just metres from the shore in Secret Harbour.

Surf Life Saving WA said the shark was spotted about 20m offshore by a member of the public just before 11am. The sighting was 2km north of the Secret Harbour Surf Club.

Callers to SLSWA estimated the shark was 7m, which if correct would make it almost identical in size to the fake, mechanical shark nicknamed Bruce in Steven Spielberg’s Jaws.

In 2014 off the coast of Albany, a massive female great white shark was reported to be the biggest ever tagged shark in Australia. That shark was measured at 5.04m to the fork in its tail, indicating an overall length of 5.3m.
