Jack Petruccelle returns among six changes for West Coast Eagles’ clash with St Kilda

Jack Petruccelle is among the half-dozen inclusions for West Coast as the Eagles look to overcome a slew of injury blows against St Kilda tomorrow night.

Petruccelle will play his first game since Round 3 in the Gabba clash, which will see the WA side without a host of big-name midfielders.

Dom Sheed (hamstring), Jack Redden (thumb) and Mark Hutchings (hamstring) join Elliot Yeo and Luke Shuey on the sidelines for the Eagles as they press for a top-four berth.

Lewis Jetta and Brendon Ah Chee are also out injured tomorrow, while Tom Hickey has been dropped.

Star duo Nic Naitanui and Shannon Hurn will return as expected, and Hamish Brayshaw will make his debut as flagged by coach Adam Simpson earlier on Wednesday.

Petruccelle, Jarrod Brander and Will Schofield round out the inclusions.

Petruccelle played the first three games of the season but hasn’t been seen since after totals of just 20 disposals, two goals and four tackles.

The loss of Sheed saw West Coast reeled in from $1.83 favourites to a line-ball prospect by bookmakers, with the Eagles’ lack of midfield experience outside of Naitanui, Tim Kelly and Andrew Gaff a looming concern.

Sheed’s absence also means not a single player out of the 11 Eagles who had clearances in the side’s 2018 premiership win will line up tomorrow night.

“We’ve always been a role driven side that plays on system,” Simpson said.

“We want talent in our side. We’re going to be without a bit of our A-grade players but that doesn’t mean we can’t win or can’t play with that spirit that we’ve been talking about.

“Our players look at it as an opportunity. It’s a really big game. It’s an opportunity to play finals and the Saints are right behind us on the ladder. It’s a very important game for the footy club. We’re not rolling over, that’s for sure.”

St Kilda has made three changes to the side that overcame Hawthorn last week, with Max King, Tim Membrey and Nick Hind replacing omitted trio Ryan Abbott, Jon Marsh and Ed Phillips.
