Brisbane have suffered a pre-match blow for Saturday’s AFL preliminary final against Geelong with defender Darcy Gardiner ruled out.
The 193cm Gardiner suffered a knee injury in training earlier this week and was a late omission when the teams were named for the Gabba clash.
Emergency Jack Payne, who debuted earlier this season and hasn’t played since round 18, will come in for Gardiner.
The loss of Gardiner is a setback for the Lions, with the tall defender expected to tackle Cats star Patrick Dangerfield should Geelong send their superstar into their forward line during the match.
Payne, who stands 197cm, will form a key defender pairing with Harris Andrews though who will tackle Dangerfield on his forays forward remains unclear.
The only other change from the Lions’ qualifying final win over Richmond is Cam Ellis-Yolmen, who was named on Friday in place of Keidean Coleman.
The Cats have named an unchanged line-up from the team that defeated Collingwood in last week’s semi-final.
