India will be dreaming of another all-star cricketer after batting giant Virat Kohli revealed he’s just months away from becoming a father.
India’s captain, often referred to as “King Kohli” for his exploits with bat in hand, took to social media today to share the news he and wife, actress Anushka Sharma, would welcome their first child in January.
Posting a sweet snap on social media, which showed off Sharma’s baby bump, the batting gun shared: “And then, were were three. Arriving Jan 2021.”
Kohli, 31, was instantly bombarded with a flood of well wishes from across the globe, including teammates and fellow international cricketers.
Master blasters including West Indies great Chris Gayle and South African Faf Du Plessis both offered up congratulations as Kholi and Sharma’s celebrity couple name “Virushka” quickly began trending on Twitter.
Kohli’s post on the microblogging website has generated close to 300,000 likes.
The couple began dating in 2013 before marrying in a private ceremony in Italy four years later.
India is expected in Australia over the summer for a series of ODIs, T20s and Test Matches, however the pandemic means those plans are yet to be locked in.
India’s 2018-19 trip down under proved fruitful, with the visitors retaining the the Border-Gavaskar trophy with a 2 – 1 series win.
The series is remembered for the tough cricket and banter between the sides, notably Tim Paine’s work behind the stumps.
During day three of the Boxing Day Test at the MCG, Australian captain Tim Paine got in Indian ‘keeper-batsman Rishabh Pant’s ear about a possible stint in Big Bash League with Hobart.
“Big MS (Dhoni) is back in the one-day squad too, we might get him (Pant) down to the Hurricanes… we need a batter,” Paine was heard saying through the stump mic.
“Fancy that, Pantsy? Extend your little Aussie holiday. Beautiful town Hobart too, I’ll get you a nice apartment on the waterfront.
“(I’ll) have him over for dinner. Can you babysit? I’ll take the wife to the movies one night and you’ll look after the kids.”
Paine’s wife Bonnie jumped in on the joke, posting on Instagram a picture of Pant holding one of the couple’s children with the caption: “Best babysitter”.
